Spectrum Club

A Safe Place

Spectrum Club

What is it?

Spectrum club provides a safe space for all students to meet, make friends, and talk about their feelings and experiences at school. Spectrum club’s goal is to help improve the school climate for everyone, by promoting equity through student led discussion regarding gender diversity, stigma of all kinds, and its effects on everyone. Our hope is to create a greater understanding for students and staff alike.

When do we meet?

  • The clubs first official meeting will take place on May 18th.
  • The following meetings will be on May 25th, June 1st, and June 15th.
  • Each meeting will start at 2:40 and go until 3:30.

What do we do?

This depends on the ideas the students brings forward. During our first meeting we will have an opportunity to get to know each other and the students will create a list of ideas for the group to engage in. This can range from arts and crafts, games, or discussions around various topics that students find engaging.

Covid protocol.

To ensure the safety of our staff and students we will be holding this club outdoors when possible (weather dependant). Students will be separated into cohorts and asked to stay with students in their POD. Masks will be mandatory when students are closer than 6ft. apart. Sanitizer will be available for students to use if we are playing a game or participating in a craft.

When it is too cold or raining, we will meet in the learning commons. Students will be separated into cohorts on each side of the room and asked to remain within their POD. Masks are mandatory to align with the ministry of educations covid expectations. Students will be asked to sanitize before and after entering the room. If numbers get above 20, we will look at an alternative placement, such as the multipurpose room.
