Career Development
Our students will succeed in a much different future from the one we envisioned 10 or 15 years ago. It is our responsibility to prepare all children for success in whatever life path they choose, connecting learning opportunities with future career possibilities. We know that real-life experiences - like community involvement, gaining business knowledge, and hands-on-learning - build better students and life-long citizens.
Goals
- Improve core competencies so students can achieve career/life goals.
- Improve graduation rates.
Entrepreneur Fairs at Fraser
Our school goal is to challenge students to develop critical thinking skills, learn how to learn, and work respectfully with others from diverse backgrounds. Our Grade 7 Entrepreneur Fair is one of the many ways students build and practice these skills.
The Entrepreneur Fair gives students a real‑world opportunity to think critically, listen to different perspectives, work together, and solve meaningful problems—all while having fun and learning important career and life skills.
From Idea to Action
Learning begins well before the fair itself. Students start by developing a business idea and asking thoughtful questions such as:
- Who might buy this product?
- What problem does it solve?
- How could it be improved?
Students then design and conduct surveys to gather feedback from peers, staff, and families. This market research helps them understand different viewpoints, analyze information, and make informed decisions. Based on what they learn, students refine their ideas, calculate costs and pricing, and create products to share and sell at the Entrepreneur Fair.
The Entrepreneur Fair
On fair day, the school is filled with energy and excitement. Students proudly showcase their products, explain their thinking, and interact with customers. They practice communication, problem‑solving, and responsible decision‑making as they manage money, adjust their approach, and reflect on what is working well.
The fair is not about profit—all proceeds are donated. Instead, it is about learning through experience. Students learn that trying new things, reflecting on feedback, and improving their work are all part of the learning process.
Connecting to Fraser’s School Goals
The Entrepreneur Fair directly supports Fraser’s school goals by helping students:
- Develop critical thinking skills through problem‑solving, budgeting, and responding to feedback
- Listen to and respect different perspectives through surveys and customer interactions
- Work collaboratively with classmates in diverse groups
- Build confidence, resilience, and inclusivity by sharing ideas and learning from both successes and setbacks
This learning supports student well‑being and creates a safe, engaging environment where every student has a voice. The Entrepreneur Fair also supports the Abbotsford School District’s mission to prepare students for a lifetime of learning by fostering engaged, thoughtful, and capable learners.
Learning That Lasts
The Entrepreneur Fair is a powerful example of how Fraser students are learning not just what to think, but how to think. By connecting classroom learning to real‑world experiences, students build the skills they need to thrive—now and in the future.
We are proud of our students’ creativity, curiosity, and commitment, and grateful to our families and community for supporting this meaningful learning experience.
